Key Stage 2 SATS
Year 6 Test to End?
An influential committee of leading maths educationists, headed by Carol Vorderman has reported to Michael Gove suggesting, among other things, that Key Stage 2 SATs in Maths should be scrapped in thier current form.
They found that most secondary schools pay little or no attention to SATs results for their new Year 7 children, preferring to re-test them using a different type of test so that they can allocate them to appropriate teaching sets.
This means that all the effort and stress year 6 teachers and pupils go through to get the best SATs result is largely wasted. It is
good to question what SATs are for, but we wonder what will replace them.
